The Greenlandic language is an Eskimo-Aleut language spoken by most people in Greenland. It is closely related to the Inuit languages in Canada, such as Inuktitut. It is spoken by about 54,000 people, which is more than all the other Eskimo-Aleut languages combined. The most prominent dialect is Western Greenlandic (Kalaallisut), which is the official language of Greenland. The name Kalaallisut is now often used as a cover term for all of Greenlandic. The northern dialect, Inuktun (Avanersuarmiutut), spoken around the city of Qaanaaq (Thule) is particularly closely related to Canadian Inuktitut. Other dialects are East Greenlandic (Tunumiit oraasiat), and the dialect of Upernavik. Together with Danish, it is an official language in Greenland .Greenlandic will become the sole official language starting from June 2009. The country has a 100% literacy rate..

Things to consider when translating between Greenlandic and other Languages
Layout designs - Text typically expands or contracts when translating one language to
another. English to Greenlandic translations and Greenlandic to English translations, will contract
or expand depending on the subject matter.
Which Greenlandic do you need for your translation?
Getting the Greenlandic translation of your documents right can be very tricky. Clearly there's
only one Greenlandic language but as in most countries different sections of the population will
have different ways of saying things. Your Account Manager will discuss the target market
of your document with you. Clearly if your Greenlandic translation is aimed at teenagers it will
need to use their phrases and maybe even slang. Missing these small issues can be the
difference between a successful translation and a bad one.
